Bambi Haney was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 28th, 1956. She moved frequently during her childhood, but settled in Boulder, CO at the age of 13. Bambi grew roots in Colorado, and remained in her home up Sugarloaf Mountain until her death in December of 2025.

 

Bambi finished school, attended University of Colorado, quickly climbed the ranks in her nursing career, and raised her three daughters in Boulder with her husband of over 30 years, who proceeded her in death in 2012. 

Lung cancer was the farthest thing from mind when Bambi started experiencing bone pain in late 2020.

 

In January, 2021 she was diagnosed with stage IV non-small cell lung cancer that had already metastasized to her bones and brain. She was given 2-3 years to live, but due in part to an amazing medical team and new gene targeted therapies, Bambi lived for almost three years longer than initially expected.

 

Leptomeningeal disease was diagnosed in February 2024 one month after Bambi started to experience double vision. The last 11 months of her life were a tragic combination of bravery and acceptance as new neurological symptoms continued to appear and Bambi became less physically capable. She was determined to live independently and made the courageous decision to utilize medical aid in dying when she could no longer do so.

 

Bambi passed at her beloved mountain home surrounded by those who loved her on December 2nd, 2025.

 

She will be remembered as a dedicated nurse, devoted animal lover, and stubborn, brave and brilliant woman by all those who loved her.
