About this Policy

The Leptomeningeal Cancer Foundation (LMCF) values your trust and respects your privacy. This privacy policy covers:

  • The personal information we collect and how we use it,
  • With whom we share your information,
  • The measures we take to protect the security of your personal information, and
  • The choices you have regarding our use of your information.

Please note that this Privacy Policy does not apply to the websites of other companies or organizations to which we provide links.

Information We Collect and How We Use It

On LMCancer.org (the LMCF website), you can make donations, register for events, make information requests, or sign up to receive news and information from us. The types of personal information you provide to us on these pages may include name, address, phone, e-mail address, user IDs and passwords, billing information, transaction, credit card information and contact preferences. We may also ask about your association or relationship to leptomeningeal cancer. This information is useful for event purposes and newsletters and helps us send you relevant content based on your relationship (e.g. patient, caregiver, clinician, researcher, industry representative).

LMCF does not knowingly collect or solicit information from anyone under the age of 13 without the consent by the holder of parental responsibility. LMCF is committed to protecting the privacy needs of children. If you are under 13, we require you to get verifiable parent consent before providing information to LMCF through this website.

LMCF uses your information to help us understand your needs and interests and provide you with an improved user experience. If you are making a donation, we use your information to help you complete a transaction and allow us to send you a receipt. Credit card information is used only for payment processing and is not used for other purposes. If you are registering for an event or signing up for our newsletter, we use the information you provide to communicate with you, to provide service and support, to update you on information and programs, and to personalize your user experience. If you are completing a survey or sharing information for patient navigation, we may ask about your relationship to leptomeningeal cancer, cancer type, demographic information, or additional information related to your condition. Data collected online may also be combined with information you provide through other sources, such as conferences or personal contacts with staff from LMCF.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

A “cookie” is a small data file that is sent by a website and is stored on your computer’s hard drive. Cookies are used to collect non-identifying information about the user, such as web surfing behavior or user preferences for a specific website.

LMCF may use two different types of cookies — session-based and persistent cookies. Session-based cookies expire at the end of a browser session and do not stay on your computer after you leave our website or once you close your browser. Persistent cookies remain on your computer until you remove them.  Cookies are used to provide website analytics, allowing us to analyze traffic patterns at our site and help us to improve content and provide you with a better visit to our site. You can manually delete all cookies, including persistent ones, within your browser privacy settings menu.

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit a login page on our site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Most browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually refuse cookies or selectively accept certain cookies by adjusting the preferences in your browser. If you turn off cookies, there may be some features of our site that will not be available to you and some web pages may not display properly.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

When you click on a link to any other website or location, you will leave our website and go to another site, and another entity may collect personal information from you. We have no control over, do not review, and cannot be responsible for these outside websites or their content. Please be aware that the terms of this Privacy Policy do not apply to these outside websites or content

Personal Information We Share

We do not disclose your personal information except as described in this Privacy Policy or as we disclose to you at the time the data is collected. LMCF does share personal information with its service providers, other third parties that assist us in furthering our mission, and in certain situations:

  • Service Providers. LMCF uses third parties that provide services on our behalf (such as payment processing, conference and event registrations, contractors that help with our operations, email delivery, website hosting, or other services). These Service Providers may have access to your Personal Information, only as necessary, in order to provide these services. You are subject to the privacy policies and terms and conditions of our Service Providers which may differ from those of LMCF.
  • Tribute Pages or Donor Dedications. You may choose to honor someone whose life has been impacted by cancer by making a donation in their name. Once your donation is received and you have requested a notification be sent to the individual or family, LMCF will send a card to the individual or family acknowledging your gift. The amount of money donated through memorial donations is kept confidential, but the individual noted on the dedication may be provided with the name and address of those who have donated in honor of their loved one. If you’ve chosen to honor an individual through a tribute page, LMCF will share information and photos provided by a family member or friend on the page with their permission. We cannot confirm with every family member that this is acceptable and will do our best to accommodate requests from the primary source of contact for the tribute page.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

What rights you have over your data

You have rights regarding the personal information we maintain about you. We also offer you choices about what personal information we collect from you, how we use that information, and how we communicate with you.

You have the right to:

  • Limit the sharing of your information with third parties for direct marketing purposes;
  • Obtain confirmation that we hold personal information about you;
  • Access the personal information we maintain about you;
  • Receive copies of the personal information we maintain about you;
  • Update and correct any incorrect personal information;
  • Request that we delete your personal information. For newsletters, you can unsubscribe at the link on the bottom of the newsletter.
  • Request that we cease processing of your personal information; and
  • Have the information blocked or deleted, as appropriate. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

To exercise these rights, please contact us as outlined below. You may withdraw any consent you previously provided to us. We will apply your choices going forward.

Information Security

We are committed to ensuring the privacy of your personal information. To help protect such information, we have in place appropriate technical, physical, and managerial procedures to safeguard the information we collect. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. All online monetary transactions are done on a secure server. This means that information entered on the transaction page is encrypted before transmission.  Though we strive to ensure the security of your information on our systems, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Changes to Our Privacy Policy

LMCF may revise its Privacy Policy to address changing technology, security measures and website functionality. We will post a notice on our website to notify you of any significant changes to our Privacy Policy and indicate when it was updated.
