No one should lose beautiful kids like Theo, Jackson and Christian. Amazing sisters like Brianna. Loving spouses like Adam, Joe and Sarah. Or an incredible dad like Mike.
No one thinks it will happen to their loved ones. But it does. It happened to all of us. And our lives will never again be the same.
We are the first and only foundation focused on leptomeningeal metastases. And that means, we have a lot of work to do!

In 2019, right before Theo was diagnosed with multiple brain tumors, I heard about a meeting to launch a giving circle called 100 Women Who Care. The idea began with a woman named Karen Dunigan in Michigan who heard that new moms in her community were bringing babies home and placing the sleeping infants in dresser drawers or boxes, or on their own beds. Some babies didn’t survive the night. When she learned the the cost for cribs and mattresses was $10,000, she thought about asking 10 friends to each donate $1,000 but then decided to ask 100 women to each give $100. She called a meeting, and in one hour, Karen raised $12,800.
100+ Women Who Care was born.
One week later, I became the co-leader of 100 Women Who Care in our community. It was an incredibly rewarding role, and in 5 years, we raised nearly $300,000 to support numerous nonprofits.
So that led me to an idea. Foundation Friends is a way to collectively fund our daily work and our extremely important projects:
- The first biobank for leptomeningeal cancer to study what’s happening in the cerebrospinal fluid
- A patient history study to help us understand the who, why, how the disease affects people
- A virtual tumor board to help patients access experts
- More patient webinars
- Patient pamphlets and posters
Recurring monthly gifts can make a huge impact on our community. And every contribution sends a glimmer of hope to everyone affected by this disease. They see that people care, that people want to help, and that we are going to change the way this disease is diagnosed and treated.
You can be part of giving people hope and giving people a chance.
We are looking for 100 people (or more!) to donate $100 a month for one year. If that’s too much, we would appreciate whatever you can spare on a monthly basis. No amount is too small to make a difference.
