Support Group

Leptomeningeal Disease (LMD) Community and Support- Private group is a private support group for patients, family, and caregivers navigating the diagnosis and treatment of LMD. The group was started by twin sisters Kyle and Briana Greenemeyer after Briana was diagnosed with LMD. The purpose of the group is to:
  • Connect people with information about LMD
  • Provide a community where people can share their experiences and find support
  • Have honest communications about the complications, side effects, treatments, and life expectancy of LMD

 

Transportation and Housing

  • Air Charity Network provides free air transportation to specialized healthcare facilities for people in need.
  • American Cancer Society offers patient lodging through their Hope Lodge® Communities and their partnership with Extended Stay America. 
  • Corporate Angel Network helps patients access cancer treatment centers by arranging free travel on corporate aircraft.
  • Joe’s House partners with various lodging organizations near cancer treatment centers and hospitals.
  • Mercy Medical Angels provides assistance with ground transportation or flights for non-emergency medical transportation.

Breast Cancer

  • BreastCancer.org: Provides educational information, latest research updates, personalized recommendations, community discussion boards and Spanish-language resources
  • HERS Breast Cancer Foundation: Supports individuals healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical products and services regardless of financial status
  • Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC): Connects people with trusted information and a community of support, including a helpline linking patients with volunteers who have similar breast cancer experiences
  • MBCBrainMets.org: Resource hub for breast cancer patients living with brain metastasis / LMD from breast cancer
  • National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF): Offers monthly in-person and virtual support groups for patients and survivors focused on emotional support, education, and community
  • Pink Fund: Provides financial support to breast cancer patients in active treatment to help cover essential living expenses
  • Susan G. Komen Foundation: Provides education, screening, treatment, and emotional support resources aiming to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease

Melanoma

  • AIM at Melanoma Foundation: Provides comprehensive patient and caregiver resources including educational programs, advocacy, helpful organization referrals, and a directory of local melanoma support groups. They maintain a digital resource library and partner with other organizations for holistic patient support
  • American Melanoma Foundation (AMF): Focuses on public education, patient advocacy, patient support groups, and research funding. Known for their direct patient support, newsletters, and awareness campaigns
  • IMPACT Melanoma: Offers support groups (both for patients and caregivers), peer matching through “Billy’s Buddies,” educational events, and prevention resources. Support groups are run by trained professionals and are open to families and friends as well as patients—free of charge
  • Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA): Runs the Melanoma > Exchange online community for patient and caregiver support, facilitating knowledge sharing, emotional support, and engagement in clinical trials
  • Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF): Offers educational materials, peer support connections, financial assistance resources, local and online support groups, and advocacy programs for patients and families

Blood Cancer

  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS): Offers a wide variety of programs for blood cancer patients and their families, including peer and family support groups (both in-person and online), financial assistance, information specialists, patient education, and connections to local resources. Their Family Support Groups are led by experienced professionals and provide a supportive environment for patients, families, and caregivers
  • Leukemia Research Foundation: Provides financial support, reimbursement programs, and free online support communities for leukemia patients, survivors, and caregivers, connecting people with similar experiences to reduce isolation and share coping strategies
  • Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF): Focused exclusively on lymphoma, LRF offers educational resources, a helpline, funding for research, and the Lymphoma Support Network, which connects patients and caregivers with trained peer supporters for one-on-one help
  • Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF): Supports patients by connecting them to one-on-one peer mentoring, clinics experienced in myeloma care, education resources, and programs to help access clinical trials and financial aid

General

  • American Cancer Society (ACS): The ACS is one of the largest and most well-known cancer organizations globally. It offers support and services for all people impacted by cancer, funds research, provides patient navigation, runs public health campaigns, and organizes events like Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
  • Cancer Support Community (CSC): A large nonprofit providing professionally led support groups, education, and navigation for anyone affected by cancer, regardless of type, through a network of community locations and online resources
  • CancerCare: A national nonprofit providing free, professional support services including counseling, support groups (in-person, online), educational resources, and financial assistance for all cancer patients and their loved ones
  • National Cancer Institute (NCI): Part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, NCI leads government cancer research and provides a wealth of evidence-based information on cancer types, treatments, clinical trials, and support services
  • National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS, now Cancer Nation): Founded by survivors, this organization champions survivorship care, policy advocacy, and resources for people living with, through, and beyond cancer
  • Union for International Cancer Control (UICC): The world’s leading international organization uniting over 1,180 cancer-fighting organizations from more than 170 countries. UICC works on global advocacy, education, and collaboration to reduce the cancer burden worldwide
